How do we Develop Routines?

How do we develop routines? Have you ever stood in the kitchen, sat at your desk, got in the car to drive to work and asked, where do I start? What am I going to do today? Do I really deserve this job? Am I actually compentent? Who am I REALLY?

Sometimes for me, I ask these questions, then sit down and watch TV till noon, or just give up after starting 4 or 5 projects, and in the end of the day none of the projects are completed. Have you started a fight with your spouse or work mated or bosses to hide your anger and frustration? How many of us have moved from job to job or relationship to relationship because we can’t finish or follow through?

Whew, those are a lot of questions. What are the answers? Stephen Covey, best selling author offers a system that if applied works. How many of you have read these books and continued to fail? Perhaps you have applied these systems effectively?

The attached ADDA (ADD.org) article offers some tips and stragegies. They point out it takes time and practice and trial and error. ( Click on the picture to open). This article is comprehensive and includes many topics including time management, how our ADHD brain works, and over coming barriers. This may be more helpful as Stephen Covey sorts out the system, without necesarially addressing our underlying challenges specific to ADHD.

For me, I have applied and reinvented routines at least every 3-6 months, tweaking and expanding on different ideas and strategies.

The answers and lists of calendars, lists, techniques are literally endless. Don’t despair, keep trying and find your own path towards a routine. Go back and finish those 5 projects from yesterday one at a time.

As usual, I am asking more questions than giving answers. Let’s walk together towards our own paths.
