Person sitting at desk planning daily schedule with self-care tips for ADHD overwhelm management

What is self care? Wow! as usual, more questions than answers. We need to ask ourselves, what has previously helped? What, who do I need to reach out to for help? Are there methods that might help?

The attached article is from one of my favorite resources, ADD.org. They are an inexpensive, reliable resource for support groups, information, articles and more. This article outlines 19 specific coping methods. It is the start of a lifetime journey.

I “automatically” used the STOP method today. After many years of practice makes perfect I noticed today that I was over reacting. Short story long I was about to explode and curse, yell at the car repair shop person! So I stopped , took a deep breath and reflected on what was really going on. After speaking with a supportive friend, we concluded that yes, it was partly me and partly them…… there was not a perfect right or wrong answer. But, with reflection, discussion and evaluation of the thoughts, emotions and circumstances, I concluded that yes indeed the truck needed repair and the people at the repair shop were only trying to help. Crisis averted, and afterall it is only money. Further evaluation will be needed to determine if we need another vehicle or keep this one. All is well. The truck is repaired and no big fight with the car repair shop.

How will you be able to utilize the 19 strategies outlined in the attached article. Let’s chat and see if we can get there together…..

  • S – Stop: Pause instead of reacting right away.
  • T – Take a breath: Slow down and reset.
  • O – Observe: Notice your thoughts, emotions, and surroundings.
  • P – Proceed mindfully: Respond with intention, and choose your response thoughtfully.
