Neurospiciness yay

What does Neurospiciness mean? YaY?!! Another terminiology we can add to our vocaculary. When I was training to become an ADHD coach, it was a battle to give up my training as a Nurse and Family Practice Nurse Practitioner. EVERYTHING needed an accurate diagnosis and a specific plan of action, treatment plan. But, the instructors for ADHD coaching and collegues often would say, “Don’t worry too much about differentiating ADHD, Autism and other comorbid problems” “Focus on solutions and coping strategies” If needed, you can refer people to traditional medical treatment options. For instance marriage counseling, Medical treatment for depression, or other professionals.

Now, 5 years later, I understand. Counseling, medications, CBT, and other treatments have algorythms for treatment, medications Eye movement, and other modalities. All of these are effective for some people. Many are focused on treating, acknowledging a set pattern or diagnosis.

Has your experience been similar? You have ADHD, here’s a medication. You have anxiety, here’s a medication, here’s how you meditate, here’s the set of anxiety rules. Have you ever been told you have bipolar disease or some other diagnosis, yet none of the medications are effective? The list goes on of what friends, clients and myself have experienced…..

But Neuropsiciness and coaching with the focus on solutions, education and understanding our story are a different paradigm. What is your story? The story is more important than the specific labels, that’s for sure! Am I saying that the whole medical and psychiatric community is wrong by making diagnosis important…. NO! As stated above, we often refer people for medical treatment or formal counseling.

But when we think about coaching with a forward looking focus on solutions, the story and the extremely diverse ways that we experience life are crucial.

How has your story been influenced by your child experiences, traumas and life in a world that doesn’t embrace being different? How can we embrace new paradigms and new solutions? I found this website CARESCRIBE. Be warned it is a commercial entity with lots of upgrades, but it is has an intriguing explanation of neurospiciness. Neurospicy embraces the fact that we are a diverse group of people with literally millions of presentations for “ADHD” or other neurodivergent conditions. We don’t necesarially fit into one mold for every person. Many of us have ADHD presenting in different ways, as well as alcohol, drug addiction history, depression, anxiety, history of childhood trauma, to name only a few comorbidities. Some of these will likely need medications or treatment. For instance to make significant changes, we may need to abstain from alchol, drugs or gambling, which requires specialized treatment. If we are suicidal or at risk for self harm, we may need specialized tretments or medications. If our anxieties or depression are overwhelming us, we may seek further counseling or medications, to name a few examples.

My thinking is we need to explore how our story had affected our relationships, education, work and life history, then make a plan to make small incremental changes over time. Yes this may take time, effort and even trial and error, there a no one size fits all strategies. Do you agree? Let me know your insights. Remember CARESCRIBE that I have embedded has lots of upgrades, it is a commercial enterprise. Ths video was enlightening and presents neurospiciness as a new paradigm. YAY
