I have attached an article about ADHD burnout. How many of us can relate to “Burnout”? ADDers seem to have a different take on all parts of life, don’t we?
Burnout is a human condition, that’s for sure. Like many other things in life, ADHD burnout is a bit different. ADDers suffer more shame and guilt. ADDers suffer burnout in a cyclical fashion. Do we as ADDers suffer burnout based on our cognitive, inside brains recycling constantly? We may or may not have a completely external source of burn out such as chronic stressful workloads. Our struggles stem from masking, hyperfocus, and managing executive dysfunction. Lacking an obvious stressor we ourselves, our familes, friends and our coworkers minimize the burnout cycles. We often stay stuck in our suffering, thinking, I’ll work harder, do more. We don’t take time to rest, renew and reassess. (Just Empower me/ADHD Burnout)
Of note, a lack of ADHD support and maintenance is a key factor. How many of us have a coach or other professional support person? How many of us are checking with other people with ADHD online or in person? How are we doing with setting limits on our time and energy?
The winter solstice is a time when nature is taking a deep breath. The trees shed their leaves, cold blankets the world and we have longer nights.
Can we as ADDers recognize that we are not broken, but we do need to recognize our unique Neurospicy conditions? Can we take time to take a deep breath? Can we make our rest time predictable and productive?
What have we been doing for our self care?
Blessings
